Discount Freeride Team was founded as an alternative to existing, formal, paid programs. We are here for rad parents that want to encourage their rad children to compete in the exciting sport of Freeride, and spend time doing it with them. We currently have three coaches and 7 or 8 kids that choose to participate at different levels.
Freeride is the sport of big-mountain skiing and snowboarding, organized into fun competitions for almost all ages. IFSA operates as the sanctioning body for big mountain freeride competition in North and South America. The competitions can be for Juniors (10-18yo), Adults, or Freeride World Tour qualified athletes. An event venue is chosen, usually steep terrain with natural boundaries and features, and the freeride athlete chooses how they will move down the venue and ski or snowboard to the best of their ability.
How much does it cost? Where do I drop my kid off?
Here's where Discount differs from other programs - it's free, and you can't drop your kid off. Being involved in DFT is a family affair, which means that at least one parent and the aspiring athlete must both be expert skiers or snowboarders. The goal is to assemble as many talented young athletes and dedicated parents as possible, so that all of our athletes always have a village of like minded riders there to encourage, coach, and have fun with them on the mountain. That means if you're interested in being involved with DFT, there's a family audition process. Fortunately, that consists of a day on the snow, which is fun for everyone.
Where do you usually ski?
The founders of DFT call Alpental home, although we would be super stoked to extend this philosophy to all like-minded families, regardless of where they are in North America.
